It is typical for the winds to moderate in the late afternoon or evening. Today it did not. The winds, predicted to be 10-15 knots are actually a stiff 20-25 with gusts of 30 knots. We have taken down the jib and have reefed the main to the second line of ties. Even with this powering down, our speed continues to average around seven knots. The last thing we want to do is break a mast or tear a line or sail.
Lynn is wearing a harness with his life jacket, and is tied to a lifeline that runs the length of the boat. The whole trip, Lynn kept repeating RULE # 1, "STAY IN THE BOAT."
